Heart of Michigan Decorative Artists have supported the infant bereavement program at Ingham Medical Hospital since 2001. We supply the obstetrics unit with painted paper mache boxes. They fill them with numerous mementos of the too-short life of the infants lost through miscarriage and stillbirths.
Our boxes are painted in a variety of patterns and colors as seen in the photos. The nurse picks the box she feels will "speak" to the mother after the loss. We are honored to bring some small comfort at such a sad time.
Although our main objective is to provide boxes for Ingham Medical, we have also provided these boxes for Sparrow Hospital when we could and we are looking at providing boxes for SIDS-Tomorrows Child, in Lansing this year.
